Why They Want to Substitute Teach
I am currently on paternity leave and will not be returning to my last employer. I'll therefore be looking for work (short-term or long-term) beginning January 2027.
About Them
I am a school person. I trade pedagogy and visible thinking routines like baseball cards or well-loved paperbacks -- and I thrive in any community welcoming to other school people. Indeed, I care deeply about collegial relationships, about the parts of community life that don't appear on a transcript, and about being a colleague who makes a department's work more focused and on-point rather than more complicated. I am therefore mindful that a substitute needs to integrate quickly, hold an existing curriculum with care, and contribute to a team without needing to remake it. That is a challenge I welcome rather than manage. Alongside being a teacher and life-long learner, I am also a music obsessive, a jazz history afficianado, and a published writer.
Experience with Children
I am a Bay Area educator with a PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing and more than a decade of teaching experience across Montessori, IB, and college-preparatory settings, both internationally and here in Northern California.
