Why They Want to Substitute Teach

Subsititute teaching pays more than teaching at a small private classical Christian school. I have eight kids and need to make more than 37,000 per year to get above the poverty line.

About Them

As the founder of 21st Century Townball, I am passionate about the game. The story behind townball and how my students and I at University High School resurrected the Massachusetts style of play would require an entire book to explain. I study classical Chinese, and I am passionate about using ancient/dead languages as bridge languages for bible translation purposes. I am also working on an update to Euclid's Elements using set theory as a means by which to encourage a classical/real approach to teaching math. I am the founder of Quadrivic Mathematics, and am the inventor of DSI (Debate-Style Instruction), which is still used in Fresno as part of their summer STEM academy training. Besides these things, I love spending time with my kids. I was born in Wisconsin, but my parents moved to Taiwan as missionaries when I was five years old. My wife, who is the daughter of missionaries, was born in Taiwan.

Experience with Children

I am a retired math teacher with over 20 years teaching experience in Taiwan, California, Oregon, Washington, and Minnesota. For the past two years I taught at Genesis Classical Academ in Winnebago, MN. My longest stretch of teaching was at University High School in Fresno, California, where I taught math for 15 years. I am currently an adjunct professor at Fresno Pacific University (online) in their graduate program. I have been a coach, camp counselor, and church youth group leader. I am also the founder of 21st Century Townball 21ctownball.com. I live in Mapleton, Minnesota with my wife and eight kids.
