Why They Want to Substitute Teach
I want to be a substitute teacher because I enjoy working with students and contributing to an environment where they can learn, grow, and feel supported. I have previous teaching experience both in an elementary school afterschool program and as an English teacher in Brazil, and I found working with students to be rewarding. I also enjoy bringing my own interests in languages, cultures, history, geography, and the wider world into educational environments. As a substitute teacher, I would take seriously the responsibility of maintaining continuity in the classroom, following the teacher's lesson plans, and creating a respectful and productive environment for students.
About Them
I am naturally curious and have a strong interest in learning about the world. I am passionate about languages, travel, geography, history, cultures, and international affairs. I speak English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese fluently and am currently studying Arabic. I have traveled extensively and enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and learning how people live in different parts of the world. I am also a professional videographer and enjoy photography, filmmaking, technology, and creative storytelling. Overall, I value curiosity, open-mindedness, lifelong learning, and treating people from different cultures and backgrounds with respect.
Experience with Children
I have several years of experience teaching and working with students in both the United States and internationally. I worked for two years as an afterschool program teacher at Manzanita SEED Elementary School in Oakland, California, where I worked directly with elementary-aged students. I later taught English at Minds English School in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and also worked independently as a private English teacher in Brazil. These experiences taught me how to communicate with students from different backgrounds, adapt to different learning styles, maintain an engaging learning environment, and build positive relationships with students while helping them develop academically and personally.
