Why They Want to Substitute Teach

I want to be a substitute teacher because I genuinely enjoy working with children and want to continue gaining meaningful experience that will prepare me for my future career as a speech-language pathologist. Working in a school setting would give me the opportunity to interact with children of different ages, abilities, learning styles, and communication needs while also learning more about the classroom environment. I also want to be someone students can feel comfortable with and supported by, even if I am only in their classroom for a short period of time. Ultimately, I see substitute teaching as an opportunity to continue developing my skills while making a positive and meaningful impact in children’s lives.

About Them

I would describe myself as a caring, patient, and motivated person who genuinely enjoys helping others and making meaningful connections with people. I especially enjoy working with children and learning more about communication, language development, and the different ways children learn and express themselves. Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, and being involved in my community. I also value learning from people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. I try to approach new situations with an open mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn, and I believe that even small interactions can have a meaningful impact on someone.

Experience with Children

Other childcare experience

I have experience working with children in a variety of settings. As a substitute behavioral technician, I have worked directly with children by supporting communication, social, and behavioral goals while following individualized behavior plans. I am also a research assistant in a developmental language lab, where I work with child participants and families during language-based research studies. Additionally, I worked as a program aide intern at a children’s sensory gym, where I helped lead activities for children with different needs and abilities. These experiences have helped me become patient, adaptable, and comfortable working with children with a wide range of personalities, communication styles, and support needs.
