Why They Want to Substitute Teach

I want to be a substitute teacher because I have long known that I wanted to pursue a career in education, and I see substitute teaching as a meaningful opportunity to gain classroom experience while continuing to grow as an educator and pursue Massachusetts teacher licensure. Throughout my career, I have partnered with K–12 schools to develop curriculum, train educators, and support student learning, but I have realized that the work I find most fulfilling is working directly with students and being part of a school community. I am excited by the opportunity to step into different classrooms, build positive relationships with students and teachers, and contribute to a learning environment where students feel supported and engaged. I believe substitute teaching requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to adapt quickly—skills I have developed through collaborating with schools, supporting educators, and working directly with students and families in a variety of educational settings. Most importantly, I view substitute teaching as more than a temporary position. I see it as an opportunity to learn from experienced educators, strengthen my classroom management and instructional skills, and ensure I am well prepared for a long-term career as a classroom teacher. I am eager to contribute positively to each classroom while continuing to grow professionally and make a meaningful impact on students' learning experiences.

About Them

I am someone who genuinely enjoys learning, building relationships, and finding ways to make a positive impact on the people around me. Those values have shaped both my educational journey and my career, and they are what ultimately inspired me to pursue teaching. I am naturally curious and enjoy solving problems, creating engaging learning experiences, and helping others grow in confidence and reach their potential. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially hiking and gardening, and I love experimenting with new recipes and baking for family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new places because I believe experiencing different cultures and perspectives helps us become more thoughtful and empathetic people. I value being part of a community and have enjoyed volunteering in roles such as serving as a CCD educator and supporting local community initiatives. My worldview is grounded in the belief that every person deserves to feel respected, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. I believe learning is rooted in strong relationships, curiosity, and a sense of belonging, and I strive to approach others with empathy, kindness, and an openness to continually learn and grow. I hope to bring that same mindset into every classroom and school community I join.

Experience with Children

Throughout my academic, professional, and personal experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with children in a variety of educational settings. In my current role with Axiom Learning, I partner with K–12 schools to support academic intervention programs serving elementary and middle school students. I develop curriculum and instructional resources, train and coach educators, analyze student assessment data, and collaborate with school leaders to improve learning outcomes. This work has given me valuable insight into effective instruction, differentiated learning, and the importance of building positive relationships with students and educators. In addition to my professional experience, I have worked directly with children as a tutor, providing individualized academic support across a variety of subject areas and helping students build both confidence and understanding. I have also worked as a nanny, where I supported children's daily routines, social-emotional development, and learning through engaging activities. As a CCD educator, I planned and taught weekly lessons, facilitated discussions, and created a welcoming classroom environment that encouraged participation, curiosity, and respect. Previously, as a Center Director, I worked closely with more than 100 students and their families, supporting their academic progress and ensuring they had a positive learning experience. I regularly collaborated with instructors to address individual student needs, communicate with families, and create an environment where students felt supported and engaged. Across all of these experiences, I have found that the most rewarding part of working with children is helping them grow in confidence, discover their strengths, and feel excited about learning. I strive to build supportive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining high expectations and adapting my approach to meet each child's unique needs. I am excited to continue building on these experiences as I transition into classroom teaching and contribute to a school community where every student feels valued, challenged, and supported.
