Why They Want to Substitute Teach

As an educator of any kind, it is crucial to provide all students with an education that meets their social-emotional and cognitive needs. All students deserve an education wherein high expectations are held for them as they are being provided with the tools they need to succeed. As substitute teachers, we must be able to jump right in and support any student, no matter the need. This means being communicative with team members, hearing students' needs, and knowing how to implement a variety of supportive tools for a diverse set of needs. Additionally, moving from classroom to classroom and school to school, substitute teachers do not have the same opportunity to build relationships with students. Because of this, it is even more important that we take the time each days to make sure our students feel heard and supported. We must continue to enforce a welcoming classroom community and ensure that each child is treated with the same respect and compassion. As a substitute teacher, my mission is to make sure that all students continue to receive effective and supportive education.

About Them

Outside of work, I love to read, both for entertainment and educational purposes. I believe my love for reading is a great strength to me as a teacher. Not only does it support being a lifelong learner, but my enthusiasm for language and literature is visible to students and encourages them as well.

Experience with Children

Babysitting Teacher

I have worked in a variety of schools as a practicum student/intern. During my time as an intern, I became a substitute teacher for Bellingham Schools. I was the nanny of a 2.5 year old and a 5 year old.
